What is the story about?
Shares of Zen Technologies Ltd. gained nearly 6% on Monday, November 3, after the company on Sunday said it won two contracts, collectively worth ₹289 crore, from the ministry of defence for the upgradation of its anti-drone systems (ADS).
The projects are slated to be completed within a year. The company had first reported on the same on Friday, October 31.
Zen Tech said the upgrades directly address operational feedback from Operation Sindoor and other frontline missions, where evolving drone threats underscored the urgent need for systems that can be swiftly adapted at both hardware and software levels.
The company added that its ADS is entirely designed and developed in-house and it enabled immediate validation of new requirements of the ministry and rapid system enhancements capabilities, which foreign-sourced products cannot provide.
Global incidents such as the Pager attack and Stuxnet malware confirm the urgent need for complete, indigenous command over every component in India's critical defence infrastructure, according to Zen Tech. It said procurement of indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured (IDDM) solutions also empowers the Indian Armed Forces to dictate changes and improvements at operational speed, closing the gap between emerging threats and deployed solutions.
"Imported systems evolve at a rate set by foreign vendors and their interests, not ours. Incidents like the pager malware operation highlight why control over every system component is vital. Buying Indian-designed, developed, and manufactured products is not an option, it's a requirement for survival as drone and cyber threats keep evolving," Zen Tech's chairman and managing director, Ashok Atluri, said.
Zen Tech shares were trading 5.9% up at ₹1,437.2 apiece around 9.20 am. The stock has declined 41.7% this year, so far.
