“Tomorrow, when Lenskart lists on the Indian stock exchange, it will look like a milestone. To me, it feels like Day Zero — the beginning of a new promise," Bansal wrote in the letter, describing the public listing not as an endpoint but as a new beginning.
He wrote that Lenskart’s founding goal was to make clear vision accessible to millions of Indians who couldn’t afford or access quality eyewear, recalling one of the company’s first customers, who was a teacher who had stopped reading her students’ notebooks due to poor eyesight.
Bansal also reiterated that the company was not built to reach a valuation but to reach people, adding that the brand’s mission had evolved “from giving vision to India, to giving vision from India to the world.”
Lenskart's IPO valuation has been the subject of many-a-debate during the three-day subscription process with it being priced at 230 times one-year forward price-to-earnings at the upper end of the ₹382 to ₹403 price band. Yet, the issue was subscribed 28 times the total number of shares on offer with subscription led mainly by the institutional investors. The retail portion also saw healthy subscription.
The letter highlighted the company’s focus on technology as its core differentiator, describing how Lenskart built its own software, AI-based eye measurement systems, and automated lens-cutting robots. Bansal said Lenskart was building the operating system of eyewear, an invisible network that links design, manufacturing, supply chain, and experience into one seamless loop.
He also wrote about B by Lenskart, the company’s new line that integrates technology into eyewear. Calling it “a breakthrough,” he said it aims to redefine eyewear “from something you wear to something that helps you live better.”
The Lenskart co-founder credited the company’s employees, co-founders, and long-time partners, writing, “A company is nothing without its people… Profit is oxygen — it keeps us alive. But purpose is breath — it keeps us human.”
He closed the letter by urging customers to share selfies with their Lenskart eyewear using the hashtag #VisionForBillion, calling it a collective journey “to make India see better and the world see through India.”
