Shares of Vodafone Idea Ltd., the telecom service provider of the Aditya Birla Group, fell as much as 3% on Thursday, April 2, despite a major update with regards to its subscribers that was released last evening.
As per the data released for the month of February by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Vodafone Idea added subscribers for the month of February.
The telecom operator saw a net addition of 21,927 subscribers in February, which is in comparison to the 4.11 lakh subscribers that it lost in the month of January. This is the first instance in five years that Vodafone Idea has seen net subscriber addition in a month.
Earlier data also shows that Vodafone Idea was seen a decline in the pace of subscriber losses.
On February 26, HSBC had raised Vodafone Idea's price target to ₹7.7 from ₹5.8 earlier, but reiterated its "reduce" rating on the stock, stating that the company's AGR relief and planned capex does not alter the industry's competitive dynamics.
Motilal Oswal had also highlighted in an earlier note that the stop in the subscriber loss will be an important trigger for Vodafone Idea's turnaround plans. It remains to be seen whether this was just a one-off or the company continues to add subscribers on a sustained basis in the months ahead.
