What is the story about?
A day after unveiling the 7XO, Mahindra has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the XUV 3XO EV, priced starting at ₹13.89 lakh (ex-showroom), sharpening its focus on urban and mass-market EV buyers. The electric compact SUV is offered in two variants—AX5 and AX7L—and builds on the success of the XUV 3XO range, launched in April 2024, which has sold close to 1.8 lakh units so far.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, Chief Executive Officer – Automotive Division, said customer demand drove the decision to add an electric variant. “Since our launch in April 2024, the 3XO has become our fastest-selling SUV, with nearly 1.8 lakh units sold so far. Customers love the features and form factor, but they told us they also wanted an EV powertrain option. Some buyers prefer petrol, some diesel, and many said the same car in an electric avatar would work for them. The 3XO EV is essentially a variant addition—one more powertrain choice for the customer,” he said.
Commenting on the broader EV outlook, Gollagunta said the market remains structurally strong despite recent moderation. “We see the EV market right now as a category-creation phase, where every new launch adds fresh volumes. Any slowdown is largely due to a lull in new product introductions, not a lack of interest. New launches excite customers, and that’s what grows the EV market overall. Our pricing is driven by what customers are willing to pay for the value proposition, with most EVs already close to ICE parity,” he added, noting that production can be scaled up as demand builds, given the shared base with the ICE 3XO.
The XUV 3XO EV is powered by a 39.4 kWh battery offering a real-world range of up to 285 km, with 110 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque, and features Level 2 ADAS, Adrenox connected technology, Harman Kardon audio with Dolby Atmos, and a 360-degree surround view system. Deliveries are scheduled to begin from February 23, 2026 .
Feature highlights include Level 2 ADAS, Adrenox connected car technology with over 80 features and built-in Alexa, 7-speaker Harman Kardon audio with Dolby Atmos, and a 360-degree surround view system.
With the back-to-back launches of the 7XO and the XUV 3XO EV, Mahindra is signalling an aggressive product pipeline across internal combustion and electric powertrains, even as competition intensifies in India’s fast-growing EV market.
