What is the story about?
Entrepreneur and content creator Ankur Warikoo announced on Friday, May 15, that he plans to shut down a growing and profitable business.
In a post on X, Warikoo revealed that since launching in 2020, the platform had grown to over five lakh students, generated more than ₹100 crore in sales, and earned nearly ₹25 crore in profits. However, he added that continuing the business “made no sense” anymore.
Warikoo further stated that he would explain the decision in detail at 8:30 PM on May 16.
Sharing a clip on X, he wrote, "I am shutting down my 100 crores courses business. We have grown beyond what I could have imagined since we started in 2020. But it makes no sense to continue it. I’ll be sharing more about my decision and what happens next tomorrow, May 16, 8:30 PM."
The announcement quickly went viral, with users speculating about the reason behind the move. Soon after the post gained traction, many users questioned whether the rapid rise of artificial intelligence had influenced Warikoo’s decision.
When one user asked “AI impact?”, Warikoo responded with a single word: “huge.” His reply fuelled fresh conversations online about how AI tools are reshaping digital learning, content creation, and the online courses industry.
Several social media users expressed surprise that a profitable business with such a large user base could be shut down voluntarily. While some praised Warikoo for taking a bold step, others wondered what would happen to students currently enrolled in his courses.

A user called the move “huge” and said they were curious to know what Warikoo planned next.
“This is a huge step, sir. I am curious to see what is coming. Best wishes for your future endeavours. Thank you for giving us such a broad perspective on the little things around us. You're truly an inspiration,” the comment read.
“You are an exceptional teacher and a source of inspiration. However, what about the students who enrolled recently and have not yet completed the course?” another user shared.
As of now, he has not shared details about the future of enrolled students or the transition plan for the platform.
The development also follows a recent emotional post by Warikoo in which he opened up about his parents and the financial difficulties his family went through during his childhood.
In it, he spoke about how his mother became the emotional and financial backbone of the family after his father lost his job unexpectedly. "The middle class curse isn't easy to escape," he wrote on LinkedIn. According to Warikoo, his mother worked as a school teacher and also took tuition classes in the evenings to support the household.
"Ma did not just offer support and stability. She offered stillness that a volatile life values. So different from each other. Maybe that is why they worked out," he added.
