Mining major Vedanta Ltd on Thursday (May 21) said its subsidiary Talwandi Sabo Power Limited is liable to pay approximately ₹127 crore following a Supreme Court judgment delivered on May 20, 2026.
The Supreme Court, in Civil Appeal Nos. 7436 and 7432 of 2025 filed by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited and Punjab State Load Despatch Centre, set aside the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity order dated March 18, 2025 and restored the order of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The court allowed the appeals filed by Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd and Punjab State Load Despatch Centre and upheld the penalty related to the alleged misdeclaration of availability for January 2017 under the Grid Code, along with applicable late payment surcharge.

Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd will pay approximately ₹127 crore and the applicable surcharge to PSPCL as per the disclosure.
Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd operates a 1,980 MW supercritical thermal power plant in Banawala village, Mansa district, Punjab. As the largest capacity thermal plant in the state, it is a subsidiary of Vedanta and supplies 100% of its generated electricity to the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd.
Shares of Vedanta Ltd ended at ₹329.75, down by ₹4.10, or 1.23%, on the BSE.
