What is the story about?
Good morning!
It's been another eventful 24 hours across geopolitics and global markets. US President Donald Trump says mediators have reached a phased agreement to disarm Hamas, though Israel remains unconvinced and Hamas has described the proposal as only a draft.
Meanwhile, Russia has launched another deadly wave of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, underscoring that multiple global conflicts remain far from resolution.
Earnings season, meanwhile, is continuing to separate winners from losers. Amazon surged more than 9% in after-hours trade after a strong quarter driven by AWS and booming AI demand, while Thermax slumped as much as 15% after a sharp earnings miss. Infosys CEO Salil Parekh also weighed into one of the biggest debates in technology, insisting that Indian IT is "bilkul, bilkul zinda hai" despite growing concerns over AI-led disruption.
Markets have plenty else to watch. The rupee has climbed to a three-week high, gold is headed for its first monthly gain in five months, and Mahindra & Mahindra is emerging as a high-conviction bet for brokerages after its latest earnings.
Closer to home, Maharashtra has set a September 1 deadline for Ola, Uber and Rapido to register under the state's new aggregator rules; the death toll in the Bhiwandi building collapse has risen; and today is the last day for eligible taxpayers to file their income tax returns without incurring penalties.
