The Indian government is not considering a directive or advisory for the IT industry for work from home (WFH) mandate, government sources told CNBC-TV18.
They said that there is no need for any directive or advisory for IT Industry as it has already deployed remote and hybrid work formats for employees.
The remarks come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made austerity calls urging people to conserve energy and resources by adopting methods such as using public transport and practising WFH amid the ongoing West Asia crisis. The PM also urged netizens to not purchase gold and silver for a year.
Sources said that PM Modi's call was only an appeal, while clarifying that no official mandates are under consideration as of now.

No curbs on electronics imports in India
Sources further said that the government is also not planning any kinds of restrictions for imports of electronic goods in the country.
India's electronics imports for financial year 2026 stood at $116.17 billion.
Officials reasoned that the import of electronics is being used for productive purposes such as manufacturing and exports.
Sources said that the high cost of memory may increase quantum of electronics imports, but artificial intelligence (AI) servers are critical for building data centres and tech infrastructure in the country. Hence, the government is not mulling any curbs on electronics imports in India.
