What is the story about?
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) initiated suo motu action against a number of e-commerce platforms for listing and selling unauthorised walkie-talkies.
CCPA said that the notices were sent for violation of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and telecom laws, as per news agency PTI.
Final orders were issued against eight entities, imposing penalties amounting to ₹ 44 lakh.
The watchdog issued notices to 13 e-commerce companies such as Chimiya, JioMart, Talk Pro, Meesho, MaskMan Toys, TradeIndia, Antriksh Technologies, Vardaanmart, IndiaMart, Meta Platforms Inc. (Facebook Marketplace), Flipkart, Krishna Mart, and Amazon, as per PTI.
