Prominent green energy player KPI Green Energy Ltd on Wednesday (December 17) said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Botswana government to collaborate on large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure.
The MoU establishes a framework for planning, developing, and implementing renewable energy and transmission projects aimed at strengthening Botswana’s energy security and positioning the country as a clean power exporter in the region.
The collaboration involves a capital investment of around $4 billion (₹36,000 crore) and is expected to increase Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly 5GW.

Under the agreement, KPI Green Energy will lead technical and commercial development activities, including feasibility studies, project design, financing, construction, commissioning, and long-term operation and maintenance of renewable energy and storage assets.
The partnership also includes upgrading and constructing high-voltage transmission lines within Botswana and strengthening interconnections with neighbouring countries for regional power transmission.
In addition, KPI Green Energy will support 30 scholarships per year for Botswana citizens to pursue education and skill development in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and related disciplines. The initiative aims to build local capacity, enable knowledge transfer, and empower Botswana’s youth to participate in the country’s clean energy transition.

The MoU marks a significant milestone in KPI Green Energy's international expansion and supports Botswana’s goal of becoming a net-zero country by 2030. The agreement was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which includes KPI Green Energy Ltd, KP Energy Ltd, and KP Green Engineering Ltd.
Shares of KPI Green Energy Ltd ended at ₹416.90, down by ₹8.15, or 1.92%, on the BSE today, December 17.
