What is the story about?
Jio Financial Services Ltd (JFSL) and Bank of America Corporation (BofA) on Wednesday (August 12) entered into a joint venture agreement under which BofA will acquire up to a 49.9% interest in Jio Credit Ltd through a preferential allotment of equity shares and warrants.
The venture will combine JFSL's digital reach and knowledge of the Indian market with BofA's global financial services expertise. The two companies will focus on digital access, innovation, access to credit and risk management.
Jio Credit is a non-bank financial company lending subsidiary of JFSL and has built AUM of ₹30,667 crore, or around $3.2 billion, as of June 30, 2026, within two years of starting operations. The digital-first lender offers a range of lending products and plans to continue expanding borrowing opportunities across existing and new products in India.

For BofA, the investment will provide an opportunity to expand its participation in the Indian market through a partner with local expertise and capabilities.
Following the transaction, Jio Credit's board will have equal representation from JFSL and BofA. The existing management team will continue to drive the strategy and operations of Jio Credit. Jio Credit will continue to be consolidated as a subsidiary in JFSL's financial reporting.
