Yatra Dates Announced
The revered annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in the picturesque south Kashmir Himalayas is set to commence on July 3rd. This spiritual sojourn
will span a significant duration of 57 days, concluding on August 28th. This extended period offers devotees a broader window to undertake the sacred journey. The preparatory rituals will begin with the first puja observed on June 19th, marking the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima, setting a spiritual tone well before the main pilgrimage begins.
Registration Essentials
Securing your spot for this divine expedition requires advance registration, which opens on April 15th. The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board has facilitated a dual-mode registration system to accommodate all pilgrims. You can complete the process online via the official Shrine Board website or opt for the offline method by visiting one of the over 550 designated bank branches spread across the nation. It's important to note that registration for a specific yatra date will close seven days prior to your chosen travel day. For participation, individuals must be between the ages of 13 and 70 years. Pregnant women, beyond their sixth week of gestation, will unfortunately not be permitted to undertake the pilgrimage.
Banking and Quota
The registration process will be managed through authorized branches of prominent banks including Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, and Axis Bank. These institutions are operating on a 'first come, first served' basis, adhering to a daily quota set for each of the pilgrimage routes. To ensure a seamless experience, banks have been instructed to establish dedicated help desks and provide comprehensive training to their staff. This preparatory measure aims to equip them to assist pilgrims efficiently and effectively throughout the registration period.
Route Choices
Pilgrims have the flexibility to choose between two distinct routes for their journey. The traditional and more established path is the Nunwan Pahalgam route, located in the Anantnag district, which stretches for 48 kilometers. For those seeking a more challenging yet shorter ascent, the alternative is the Baltal route in the Ganderbal district, covering a distance of 14 kilometers. This route is known for its steeper incline, offering a different kind of spiritual and physical engagement for the devotees.
Health and Permits
A mandatory health certificate is a prerequisite for all pilgrims. This certificate must be dated on or after April 8, 2026, and obtained from authorized doctors or recognized medical institutions. A nominal fee of Rs 150 will be charged per permit. Upon presenting a valid health certificate, bank branches will conduct verification before issuing a system-generated yatra permit. This permit will clearly indicate the chosen route and the scheduled date of travel, and will also specify the designated times for crossing the access control points at Domel for the Baltal route or Chandanwari for the Pahalgam route. Pilgrims are strongly advised to provide accurate Aadhaar and contact details during the registration process for smooth coordination and communication.
