A Beloved Brand Returns
A cherished taste from the past is making a triumphant return to the bustling metropolis of Mumbai. The state dairy development department has orchestrated
a significant comeback for Aarey milk, with an initial production target of a substantial 50,000 liters. This heartwarming revival will see the iconic milk available at an impressive 1,800 designated stalls strategically placed throughout the city. For many long-time residents, this marks a deeply nostalgic moment, bringing back memories associated with a familiar and trusted brand. In a city that consumes an astonishing daily average of nearly 60 lakh liters of milk, this fresh supply promises to be a welcome addition to the market, offering a sense of continuity and heritage amidst the city's rapid evolution. The initiative signifies a deliberate effort to reintroduce a local favorite and cater to the ongoing demand for dairy products within Mumbai's vast population.
Reviving Iconic Brands
The production of this reintroduced Aarey milk will be managed by Mahananda, as Mumbai embarks on a mission to revitalize its cherished, older dairy brands after a period where milk cooperatives became the dominant force in the market. This strategic move reflects a broader ambition to restore and elevate the prominence of historically significant local brands. The dairy sector in Mumbai has undergone significant transformations over the years. Evidence of this change is also seen in the reduced workforce at old dairy facilities, which has seen a steep decline from 15,000 employees to a mere 950. Furthermore, land previously occupied by now-closed dairies is being repurposed. In a notable instance, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is considering the Worli plot for a landmark development project. This confluence of events, from the return of a beloved milk brand to the innovative use of urban space, illustrates how Mumbai is adeptly balancing its rich history with forward-thinking urban planning and development.
