Fleet Upgrade Initiated
A significant investment of $400 million has been earmarked by Air India to revitalize its aircraft fleet, with the first upgraded Boeing 787 now revealed.
This ambitious project targets 26 of these wide-body jets for a comprehensive overhaul by the year 2027. The airline's strategic vision aims to significantly elevate the passenger journey, particularly on routes connecting to the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia, promising an enriched travel experience for all passengers. This extensive refurbishment signifies a major step in Air India's commitment to modernizing its service offerings and enhancing its competitive edge in the global aviation market.
Redesigned Cabin Classes
The revamped Boeing 787 now boasts a sophisticated three-class configuration, meticulously designed to align with the airline's most current service standards. Business class passengers can anticipate 20 exclusive private suites, each equipped with fully reclining flat beds and expansive 17-inch high-definition screens, perfect for immersive entertainment during long-haul flights. Premium economy offers 25 seats arranged in a 2-3-2 layout, prioritizing enhanced privacy and comfort with a generous 38-inch seat pitch and a substantial 7-inch recline. These seats also feature a 6-way adjustable headrest, integrated calf and leg rests, and personal 13.3-inch entertainment screens, ensuring a more relaxed and enjoyable journey. The economy class has also seen improvements, providing passengers with increased personal space and access to an upgraded in-flight entertainment system, completing a holistic cabin transformation.
The Overhaul Process
The meticulous transformation of each Boeing 787 aircraft is a testament to Air India's dedication to detail and passenger satisfaction. This comprehensive upgrade process required an astounding 12,825 man-hours per aircraft, with each plane spending approximately 45 days undergoing its renovation. This extensive period underscores the depth and complexity of the work involved, from cabin reconfigurations to the installation of new entertainment systems and seating. This endeavor is a crucial component of Air India's broader strategy to significantly enhance the overall flying experience, reinforcing its commitment to providing superior service and comfort to its patrons. Following the successful revamp of the 787s, the airline also has plans to introduce similar improvements to its Boeing 777 fleet.
