kyShowtime’s “The Homicide Unit” produced by Warner Bros. International Television Production (WBITVP) Sweden, and Iceland’s “Fjord” have been added to Reinvent Yellow Sales’ Mipcom slate. The two crime shows feature
top female investigators played by internationally acclaimed Nordic theps, Swedish star Pernilla August (“Blackwater,” ”Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace”) and Iceland’s Anita Briem (“The Tudors,” “The Minister”, “As Long As We Live”) respectively.
The shows see Reinvent Yellow, one year after the merger of Yellow Film Studios and REinvent, keeping premium Nordic shows at its core while gradually expanding into English-language titles.
Created by Gunnar A. K. Järvstad (“Top Dog”), the eight-parter “The Homicide Unit” (“Riksmord”) is inspired by a real-life travelling elite unit as they help the local police untangle complex murder cases. Making up the top cop team are August (who plays the chief ‘Ib’) Jonas Karlsson (“Riding in Darkness,” “Quick”), Alexander Abdallah (“Snabba Cash,” “Paradise City”), and Nina Zanjani (“Beck,” “Agent Hamilton”). Set to premiere in March 2027, the show was co-produced by SkyShowtime, TV4 in Sweden, with regional backers Film i Skåne, Film i Dalarna and Filmpool Nord.
Just as the varied landscape of Sweden’s mighty forest to its picturesque coastline enhance the storyline of “The Homicide Unit,” the striking and atmospheric nature of Northern Iceland plays an integral part of the tense thriller “Fjord.”
Co-created by Briem with writer-director Constantine Paraskevopoulos, the six-part series in English and Icelandic language turns on Ranna (Briem), who follows her fiancé Sveinn (Pääru Oja) back to Iceland after the collapse of their London gallery. Struggling to fit in, Ranna becomes obsessed with a decade-old disappearance of a choir teacher and starts a podcast about the case. She ends up uncovering the town’s secrets and truths about herself. “Fjord” is a crime series where the real danger isn’t violence but proximity: living too close to the same people, with shared histories and too much to lose,” said Paraskevopoulos is a statement.
Produced by Iceland’s Guðný Guðjónsdóttir Sara Djeddou Baldursdóttir (Projects) with Belgium’s Lunanime, for local streamer Síminn, “Fjord” will premiere later this year.
Reinvent Yellow Sales’ chief sales officer in charge of marketing Helene Aurø said that “with distinctive creative voices, strong casts and stories that resonate beyond their borders,” both series “showcase the strength and range of Nordic storytelling.”
Crime Focus
Other such titles in the sales outlet’s Mipcom slate include “Nora Sand: Devil’s Plan”, third adaptation of Lone Theil’s best-selling novels from Norwegian creators Arne Berggren and Kristine Berg of Shuuto Arctic. The two first series “Fatal Crossing” and “The Pushover” played strongly internationally, with recent sales closed notably with MHZ Networks for North America, and Global Series Network/Walter Presents for the U.K. and Ireland. Commissioned by DR in Denmark and TV4 in Sweden, “Nora Sand: Devil’s Plan” will be delivered later this year.
Complementing the crime offers are three Finnish series produced by Reinvent Yellow’s partner Yellow Film & TV: “Helsinki Tallinn,” “The Truth,” and “Port Poison,” and two high-end shows, part of a three-title deal with Nordisk Film Production: Prime Video’s first Danish Original “Snake Killer” starring Pilou Asbæk, and TV2 Norway’s cosy crime “Sogn Murders” starring Kristofer Hivju.
Rounding out Reinvent Yellow’s Mipcom scripted slate is the hospital drama “The New Nurses” season 8, part of TV2 Denmark, SF Studios Production hit franchise, to be delivered late 2026.
“Our slate reflects a clear strategy: building on our Nordic strengths while expanding our English-language ambitions,” seasoned Danish executive Aurø told Variety. “Since the merger with Yellow Film & TV [a year ago], we have accelerated our work with Nordic titles and made good progress on the English-language side, with several exciting projects in development. It is an evolution of our identity, grounded in strong local storytelling with the ambition to reach international audiences.”
Commenting on buyers’ behavior, ahead of Mipcom, she said “crime, thriller, survival and disaster and action remains the most sought-after genre, and buyers are still acquiring, although they are selective. A familiar genre helps open the door, but a series needs a distinctive voice, compelling characters and a clear audience to stand out. For us, the focus is on stories that combine that appeal with something fresh, giving buyers a strong reason to commit.”
