In 2024, AMC Theatres went viral after moviegoers discovered the sandworm-inspired popcorn bucket for “Dune: Part Two” was… suggestive, to say the least. The iconic vessel was the subject of countless memes and later
immortalized on “Saturday Night Live”in a sketch about a teenager with other plans for the souvenir container.
Now AMC is unveiling two new designs for the upcoming “Dune: Part Three,” including a “Sandworm Thumper,” with a “working Thumper design” (that’s the device used by the Freman to pound the desert sand and attract giant sandworms) and a “Double Sandworm” collectable featuring two Shai-Hulud, “making it easier to share,” according to AMC’s press release. Prices will be announced at a later date. (Canisters for “Dune: Part Two” were $24.99 plus tax but sold for much more on secondary markets like eBay.)
AMC’s “Dune: Part Three” collection also has Atreides-Fremen light-up cup, spacing guild navigator cup, mystery keychains and sandworm plush. These items will be available exclusively at AMC locations as well as Odeon Cinemas throughout Europe.
“The AMC Sandworm popcorn bucket for ‘Dune: Part Two’ became a viral phenomenon, and we knew that ‘Dune’ fans would have high expectations for what came next,” said Hank Green, AMC’s senior VP of food and beverage. “From the moment we started planning the ‘Dune: Part Three’ collectibles, our goal was to exceed those fan expectations. The Sandworm Thumper and Double Sandworm collectibles take the experience to the next level with designs straight from the movie.”
“Dune 3,” which opens in theaters on Dec. 18, stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Rebecca Ferguson.
