A fresh batch of supernatural frights is headed to Shudder.
The horror streamer announced the acquisition of “Split Rock,” writer and director Ryan Glover’s sophomore feature, following 2021’s “The Strings.” “Split Rock”
is set to debut at the 59th Sitges Film Festival on Friday, and has its North American premiere at Brooklyn Horror Film Festival on Oct. 21. It’s set to stream on Shudder Dec. 25.
“Split Rock” stars Clark Backo (“Yaga,” “The Changeling”), Drew Ray Tanner (“Riverdale,” “Boot Camp”), Olivia Luccardi (“It Follows,” “The Deuce”) and Graham Verchere (“The Fall of the House of Usher”).
Per the official synopsis, the 16mm-shot film “follows geologists Lauren (Backo) and Ben (Tanner) as they investigate a strange anomaly discovered deep within the remote badlands. After unearthing an ancient force hidden in the hills, the couple and their team must face a series of ever-intensifying horrors.”
“I am very excited and thankful to be teaming up with Shudder again for the release of ‘Split Rock,’ my bloodier and far more ambitious second film,” Glover said in a statement. “Shudder is home to the most passionate genre audience in the world and I can’t wait for them to unearth the horrors and tragedies of ‘Split Rock’ later this year.”
“With ‘Split Rock,’ Ryan Glover has delivered a meticulously crafted world of psychological tension and haunting performances from its intimate cast. We can’t wait to share this unsettling tale with Shudder audiences,” Emily Gotto, Shudder’s SVP of global acquisitions and co-productions, also said in a statement.
Brian Robertson of Low End (“Cursed Films”), Jefferson Moneo of Prowler Pictures (“Flapjax”) and Krista Dzialoszynski of Observer Effect (“The Strings”) are producers. Executive producers include Glover, Kate Melville, Fabiola Caraza, Patrick Hackett and Daniel Futa, with Joey Montenarello serving as casting director.
Gotto negotiated the deal for the film on behalf of Shudder, with Brian Robertson of Low End on behalf of the filmmakers. Rights include the United States, U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
