ABC News is adding a few new faces to its weekend morning mix.
Rachel Scott, the Disney news division’s senior political correspondent, will start to co-anchor Saturday telecasts of “Good Morning America” on September
12, while Rhiannon Ally, who has worked on overnight programs, will start to co-anchor Sundays. Scott is paired with Whit Johnson, while Ally is teamed with Gio Benitez.
Leslie Lopez will work with both teams as the new weekend meteorologist for “GMA.”
“We know weekend mornings are precious to our audience, and we could not be more excited to have Whit, Rachel, Gio and Rhiannon as our new weekend team, along with Leslie, to help our viewers make the most of their Saturdays and Sundays,” said Simone Swink, senior executive producer of ABC News’ broader “GMA” franchise.The various anchors, she added, are likely to turn up on weekday broadcasts of the show as well.
Scott, who began her career at ABC News as a production associate in 2016, plays an integral role in the ABC News report. She will continue as the news division’s senior political correspondent, covering the White House, Capitol Hill and more from Washington, D.C., in addition to co-anchoring “GMA” Saturday from New York.
Ally joined ABC News 2021, and recently served as co-anchor of “World News Now” and “Good Morning America First Look.” She previously worked at KSHB in Kansas City, Missouri, WFOR in Miami and WCBS in New York before joining ABC News.
Lopes joined ABC News this past April from KABC, where she served as the morning meteorologist providing weekday weather reports for the 4 a.m., 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. newscasts in Los Angeles.
The four weekend co-anchors will also anchor “ABC News Live Weekend” on a rotating basis on weekend mornings beginning at 10 a.m. eastern on ABC News’ streaming news channel on Disney+, Hulu and the ABC News app.
