Amy Sedaris is the latest addition to the Apple TV comedy series “Protective Custody,” Variety has learned.
Sedaris will star alongside previously announced series lead Ben Stiller as well as fellow cast member Benicio
Del Toro.
The logline for the show states that it will follow “a disgraced financier (Stiller) accused of massive fraud who is thrown into protective custody, where he must navigate prison politics, salvage his reputation, and confront the consequences of his actions while awaiting trial.”
Further character details are being kept under wraps.
Sedaris is perhaps best known for starring in the cult hit comedy “Strangers with Candy,” which she co-created. Her other TV credits include “At Home with Amy Sedaris” and “BoJack Horseman,” while she has also starred in films such as “Jennifer’s Body,” “Puss in Boots,” and “Elf.” She earned two Emmy nominations for “At Home with Amy Sedaris” in the Outstanding Variety Sketch Series category. She has also frequently collaborated with Jon Favreau, including on his films “Chef” and the live-action “Lion King,” as well as in his “Star Wars” shows “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” Next up, she will appear in Favreau’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series at Disney+.
She is repped by CAA and attorney James Adams.
Mike Judge is co-writing “Protective Custody” along with Steve Hely and Dave King. All three are executive producers and co-showrunners, with Judge also attached to direct. Stiller will executive produce in addition to starring via Red Hour. John Lesher of Red Hour also executive produces, as does Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, and Rodney Ferrell of Propagate Content. Michael Rotenberg and Oly Obst executive produce for 3 Arts Entertainment. Nanette Burstein will executive produce as well. Apple Studios will produce.
