Once the cameras stop rolling on Sam Mendes’ epic four-part biopic series about the members of the Beatles, many of the sets and props are going to have a new life celebrating the band in their native home.
A 100,000
sq. ft Beatles experience has been announced for Liverpool, moving the existing The Beatles Story to a new location in the heart of the city more than four times the size of its current site in Albert Docks.
The experience will take fans from the bands’ post-war childhoods in Liverpool through Hamburg, The Cavern, Beatlemania, Abbey Road, Shea Stadium, Savile Row and beyond. A number of these immersive locations will be created using sets and props from “The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event.”
Capitalizing on the noise from the movies, the experience is due to open in 2028, shortly after their release worldwide by Sony Pictures in April of the same year (current reported plans have the four films releasing simultaneously).
‘Filming recently in Liverpool for our four Beatles movies brought home just how extraordinary the band’s legacy in the city is,” said Mendes. “Their imprint can be felt everywhere. It’s particularly fitting that this new Beatles experience will be helping to support the next generation of talent coming from this extraordinary city.”
The ambitious plan was announced by Apple Corps, the company founded in 1968 to oversee the Beatles’ creative and business interests, and will mark the first official fan experience to be operated in Liverpool by the company. Apple Corps will take over running of the current The Beatles Story in 2027, before moving to the attraction to the new site in 2028. It will also take over Liverpool’s 400ft St Johns Beacon tower for the Yellow Submarine experience.
“I find it incredible and humbling that people are still interested in our story and it’s very exciting to me that The Beatles Story and The Beacon are being transformed in such an exciting way in the heart of Liverpool city,” said Paul McCartney. “I love Liverpool. It’s part of who I am, it’s part of who The Beatles are. If you’d told us this was going to happen when we were hanging out and getting started we’d never have believed it. The extraordinary plans the Apple Corps team have shown me for The Beatles Story take me right back to that journey, from Liverpool to the world and back home again. It couldn’t have happened without Liverpool and I can’t wait for people to be able to step into our story and share the experience.”
The new Beatles Story in Liverpool will be only the second permanent Beatles experience ever operated by Apple Corps, following the forthcoming attraction at 3 Savile Row in London, which is due to open at the end of 2027.
Each film in “The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event” will be from the perspective of a different band member, and are being led by Paul Mescal as McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.
