Shenzhen Film Studio’s sports comedy “Kung Fu Soccer” comfortably retained the top spot at the mainland China box office during the July 17–19 weekend, generating RMB501.1 million ($73.7 million) in its second weekend of release,
according to data from Artisan Gateway.
Directed by Stephen Chow, the hit has reached a cumulative total of $214.3 million in its first nine days. The narrative marks a return to Chow’s signature athletic slapstick, following an amateur women’s team as they combine gravity-defying martial arts with professional soccer to storm a major championship tournament.
“Kung Fu Soccer” was the second highest grossing film in the world over the weekend. Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” the No. 1 film in the world by some distance, will open in China Aug. 15.
Pearl Studio’s computer-animated fantasy feature “All Wishes Come True!” debuted in second place, capturing $30.6 million over the three-day weekend frame. Directed by Mu Zhengyang, the co-production has amassed a total of $39.6 million since launching on July 18. The family-friendly mythological comedy follows eight ordinary mortals who must use their collective wit and courage to outsmart formidable deities, ultimately earning the legendary title of the Eight Immortals.
Enlight Pictures’ adaptation of 2015 U.K. film “Miss You Already,” “A Part of Me,” opened in third position, pulling in $13.6 million during its debut frame. Directed by Ma Yingxin and starring Zhang Ruonan and Jolin Jin, the character-driven film spans a multi-decade timeline, chronicling the emotional complexities, personal growth, and shifting bonds of a deeply resilient friendship that crosses 20 years.
Universal’s “Minions & Monsters” moved to fourth place in its third week of release, bringing in $3.7 million. The film has now pushed its cumulative Chinese box office haul to $40.3 million since its July 3 debut.
Rounding out the top five, a theatrical release of Christopher Smith’s 2009 psychological horror film “Triangle” drew $3.7 million over the weekend frame. Funded by the erstwhile U.K. Film Council, the mind-bending thriller has taken $3.9 million to date.
Mainland China’s overall weekend grosses reached $132.9 million, while the 2026 year-to-date revenue stands at $2.97 billion, down 35.3% from the same period in 2025.
