“The Sopranos” creator David Chase, speaking at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival on Wednesday, said he’s thinking of making a movie or TV show centered on Italian Americans moving to Italy.
The seven-time Emmy winner,
who was delivering an industry talk about the impact of his HBO drama about an Italian-American mafia boss in New Jersey, said, “I’d like to do something about Italian Americans … this happens a lot lately … Italian Americans who buy property in Italy, because apparently Italy sells these houses for… Lorraine Bracco [who played Dr. Jennifer Melfi in ‘The Sopranos’] got one for nothing.
“But they sell these houses in these abandoned towns, and a lot of … all kinds of Americans are buying these houses and moving there because things in our country are questionable.
“I’d like to do a story about that, about four people, Italian Americans, going back to the old country, and what surprises they have in store for them.”
Chase also said he’d like to reteam with four actors – John Magaro, Jack Huston, Will Brill and Bella Heathcote – from 2012 movie “Not Fade Away,” which Chase wrote and directed.
Set in suburban New Jersey in the 1960s, the movie follows a group of friends who form a rock band and try to make it big.
“They all want to make another movie together, and I would too, not about the same subject but with them. I would like to do that,” Chase said.
Last year, it was announced that Chase was reteaming with HBO to deliver a series titled “Project: MKUltra.”
Based on “Project Mind Control: Sidney Gottlieb, the CIA, and the Tragedy of MKUltra” by John Lisle, the series is set to revolve around real-life chemist and spymaster Sidney Gottlieb, also known as the Black Sorcerer, who is credited as the unwitting godfather of the LSD counterculture.
