Filipino-American star Liza Soberano has joined the jury for the Golden Globes Impact Prize for Documentary, which will be presented by Artemis Rising Foundation during the upcoming Venice Film Festival.
The prize, founded
by the Golden Globes and Artemis Rising Foundation with support from Think-Film Impact Production, honors a documentary feature film in the festival’s official selection — either in or out of competition — “that exemplifies the extraordinary power of documentary filmmaking to illuminate important social issues through compelling storytelling,” according to a statement.
Soberano, who moved from California to the the Philippines as a child, built a stellar career there before crossing over to make her Hollywood debut in Focus Features’ “Lisa Frankenstein” in 2024. She has a lead voice role in DreamWorks Animation upcoming “Forgotten Island” that will be released in September. Along with her creative work, Soberano is an active ambassador for Save the Children Philippines as well as an advocate for women and children’s rights, protection of children from online sexual exploitation and mental health.
“I’ve always believed that film has the power to do more than entertain — it can challenge injustice, offer safety, inspire hope and remind us of our shared humanity,” Soberano said.
“Documentary filmmaking is where some of the most courageous and unforgettable storytelling is happening today. I’m honored to serve on this jury, because celebrating documentary filmmakers isn’t only about recognizing extraordinary talent; it’s where the future of cinema is heading,” she added.
The Golden Globes Impact Prize for Documentary Award’s full jury will comprise Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne; Oscar-winning producer and founder of Artemis Rising Foundation, Regina K. Scully; Oscar-winning producer and co-founder of Impact Partners, Geralyn White Dreyfous; and founder and CEO of Think-Film Impact Production, Danielle Turkov Wilson. The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000 from Artemis Rising Foundation.
The Golden Globes, Artemis Rising Foundation and Think-Film Impact Production first partnered to launch a documentary prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and then expanded the partnership to Venice last year.
“Documentaries have become some of the defining cinematic experiences of our time,” said Golden Globes president Hoehne, noting that in the Venice documentaries selection “we see creatives continuing to expand what the genre can do.”
Commented Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera: “Venice has always been a home for filmmakers who expand the possibilities of cinema, and documentary has become one of the defining creative forces in contemporary filmmaking.”

The 83rd Venice Film Festival runs from Sept. 2 to 12.
