CNBC, in the midst of developing more direct-to-consumer services under a larger initiative by corporate parent Versant Media, said it hired two new executives to oversee work tied to development of subscriptions and
partnerships.
Ian Moore, who has logged stints at Verizon Media and New York Times Co., was named vice president of subscriptions, and will focus on subscriber acquisition, engagement and retention. He had most recently worked for Business Insider, where he most served as general manager of subscription growth and revenue operations,
Tom Mahar was named vice president of strategic partnerships and has been assigned to identify and build new opportunities spanning technology, financial services, media, content, data, distribution and emerging business models. Mahar spent more than a decade working across News Corp, including roles in the US, UK and Australia. Most recently, he worked as a consultant to News Corp leadership on AI developments and evolving commercial models.
Both executives will report directly to Sally Shin,. executive vice president of growth and partnerships and interim general manager of DTC for CNBC
“I’m excited about the experience and expertise these new leaders will bring to CNBC as we continue to strengthen our business and position the team for what’s ahead, while contributing to Versant’s broader strategy to deepen audience engagement, extend the reach of its brands and invest in long-term growth,” Shin said in a memo to employees issued Wednesday.
At a recent presentation, Shin articulated a strategy tied to building deeper, ongoing relationships with audiences, and thinking beyond traditional subscriptions.
Both executives will start on September 21.
