“Love Island” and “The Traitors” star Maura Higgins has a new gig: hosting Disney+’s upcoming reality series “Blind Date.”
The iconic British dating show, which ran from 1985 to 2003, is being revamped by the streamer
for modern audiences and promises to be “bigger, better and bolder than ever,” according to a press release.
“As with the original British format, contestants must choose between three potential suitors, hidden from view behind the legendary ‘Blind Date’ wall, the only thing standing between them and their potential true love just meters away,” the synopsis continues. “Fans can expect a host of innovative format twists and a spicy dose of drama, as our daters will see if forever love can truly grow … but potential new partners are always lurking behind the wall.”
The new “Blind Date” series starts filming at a secret location later this year.
Irish native Higgins first propelled to fame on “Love Island U.K.,” where she was a finalist and then became the host of “Love Island USA: Aftersun.” Earlier this year, she was the runner-up on “The Traitors U.S.,” and this fall she is set to compete on “Dancing With the Stars.”
“Blind Date” is a Hulu Original series commissioned by Sean Doyle, VP of unscripted at Disney+ EMEA and executive produced by Matthew Worthy and Kieran Doherty for Stellify Media (a Sony Pictures Television-backed company) and Graham Stuart for SO TV (part of ITV Studios).
“Maura is the perfect match for our version of ‘Blind Date,'” Angela Jain, Disney+ head of content EMEA, said in a statement. “Her distinctive straight-talking humor, coupled with her experience as a reality dating show contestant, means we know she has the gravitas plus the wit to bring ‘Blind Date’ to new audiences. We’re very much looking forward to Maura helping our daters navigate their own journeys to find love as she steps into the famed ‘Blind Date’ host role.”
