Netflix’s “Scooby-Doo: Origins” has wrapped production, the company announced Sunday. The live-action series is set for a global release on the streamer in 2027.
Per the series’ official logline, “Scooby-Doo: Origins”
is a “modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.”
“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder,” the logline continues. “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
The show, which audiences got a first look at earlier this year, was filmed in Atlanta. (Past Netflix productions “Stranger Things” and “His & Hers” were also shot in the state.)
The previously announced cast includes McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. The titular canine will be played by a real Great Dane — a first for the “Scooby-Doo” universe.
The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser (as Scooby-Doo’s owner), Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Pamela Mitchell, Ross Kimball, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Sauriyan Sapkota, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin and Cathy Moriarty.
Showrunners and writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (“High Fidelity,” “Everything Sucks!”) executive produce alongside Toby Haynes. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman executive produce via Berlanti Productions and its overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, in addition to André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Adrienne Erickson, who executive produce via Midnight Radio. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
