Acquisitions
The hit animated franchise Super Boomi is headed to Netflix on Oct. 5.
With over 8 billion views, the eight season series is one of Asia’s breakout kids properties and will now be available to audiences around the world.
The series follows “Boomi, an endlessly imaginative young bear whose ordinary life transforms when he creates the spectacular virtual universe of StarWorld. Using his coding genius and creativity, Boomi turns ideas into colorful game worlds, fantastical adventures and larger-than-life challenges that he and his friends work together to solve.”
“This deal with Netflix is truly a dream come true,” creator Trevor Lai said. “For years, we’ve watched BOOMi connect with kids and families across Asia, and now Netflix gives us the opportunity to introduce him and his world to audiences on a truly global scale. We look forward to bringing BOOMi to millions of new fans and beginning this exciting new phase of growth for the franchise.”
Lai created Super Boomii through Up Studios, the entertainment company he founded to build original character-driven franchises with global potential. Adrian Askarieh and Prime Universe Films helped bring the property to Netflix.

Dark Slope, the Toronto-based entertainment company and virtual production studio, announced Tuesday the acquisition of virtual production assets from Pixomondo, a visual effects and virtual production company owned by Sony Entertainment.
This acquisition significantly expanded the company’s capacity to support large-scale film and television productions across Canada, including building on Dark Slope’s existing 75,000-square-foot Toronto production campus. It also gives the company the space for equipment and infrastructure to design and deploy custom LED volumes for productions.
“Productions are under enormous pressure to deliver bigger, more cinematic worlds while being smarter about managing ever-evolving budgets and production schedules,” Dan Fill, President of Dark Slope said. “Dark Slope has always been focused on solving that problem: Giving filmmakers an elevated look without an elevated price tag? This acquisition takes us a step further. We can now build a custom LED volume to virtually any scale and bring it to the production, rather than forcing the production to fit the stage.”
Pixomondo has built LED stages with the acquired equipment for productions including Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy. By integrating these assets with Dark Slope’s existing virtual production infrastructure and team, Dark Slope will be able to support productions at greater scale while giving filmmakers more flexibility in how and where they shoot.
Dark Slope is the virtual production company behind popular titles like “Ginny & Georgia,” “The Boys,” “Gen V” and “Heated Rivalry.”
