Kevin Delaney, a journalist-turned-digital-entreprenur, has been named head of digital content and subscription at NBC News, a new role that will serve as a bridge between both editorial and business.
Delaney will be
tasked with overseeing digital publishing and NBC News AI efforts, work that has become more important as NBC News builds out a suite of digital and streaming products. The NBCUniversal news unit has in recent months expanded programming on the streaming-news outlet NBC News Now, and launched a subscription product aimed at mobile users.
Delaney will report to Catherine Kim, NBC News’ executive vice president of editorial and content, and Sat Brainch, NBCUniversal News Group’s chief business officer. He is slated to start on November 16.
Delaney co-founded Quartz, a news site that specialized in delivering information in unique ways to digital audiences, and Charter, a digital media company that focused on leadership. He was most recently editor in chief of the San Francisco Standard, a local-news focused outelt, which acquired Charter.
In the past, Delaney held senior editorial roles at The Wall Street Journal, where he oversaw digital editorial efforts and helped expand its subscription product offerings, as well as at The New York Times and The Information. He began his career as a TV producer in Montreal.
