Live Nation continues to post incremental profits with the release of its second-quarter earnings, reporting $7.7 billion in revenue in a 9% increase over the same period last year.
The company saw concert revenue increase
by eight percent over the year, with international markets amplifying growth. Operating income for Q2 landed at $522 million, up seven percent from $487 million during the same period last year, while adjusted operating income ticked up two percent from $798.4 million to $817 million year over year.
The global growth of attendance contributed to Live Nation’s successful quarter, with 143 million tickets sold through mid-July. Internationally, attendance increased by 10 percent to a record 49 million fans. The company is forecasting an overall 10 percent increase in attendance for the year, and plans to open 25 large venues through the end of 2027 that will allow for 15 million additional fans.
Last quarter, the company disclosed it took a $450 million hit due to legal costs associated with its Department of Justice settlement and litigation with the states, which ended in a jury deciding that Live Nation and Ticketmaster illegally held monopoly power in the ticketing market. But that appeared to be a drop in the bucket for Live Nation, which still managed to increase 12 percent in overall revenue to $3.8 billion in Q1.
“In a world of endless screens and AI-generated everything, the one thing that can’t be copied is being there,” said Michael Rapino, President and CEO of Live Nation, in a statement. “More artists are on the road than ever — and fans keep choosing to be in the room with them, driving the strongest concert ticket sales we’ve ever seen. More than 143 million tickets have sold through mid-July, over 14 million ahead of last year’s pace, with mid-teens ticket sales growth across all large venue types: stadiums, arenas, and amphitheaters.
“None of this happens without the artists — they make these moments, and we’re grateful to every artist and crew who trust us with their tours,” he continued. “This was a quarter of milestones: nearly 49 million fans attended our shows, Ticketmaster grew adjusted operating income 14%, and all-time-high deferred revenue points to a strong second half. The first-quarter legal accrual will weigh on reported operating income, but we remain on track for double-digit adjusted operating income growth this year — and to compound at that level for years to come.”
