The cop drama pilot “American Blue” is not moving forward at HBO Max, Variety has confirmed.
The show was one of two drama pilots recently commissioned by HBO Max alongside the family drama “How to Survive Without Me.”
Both shows were developed under the model established by “The Pitt,” with an eye to have both shoot around 15 episodes per season on a more modest budget and return for new seasons every year.
According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, “How to Survive Without Me” is looking good for a series pickup at the streamer.
Milo Ventimiglia led the cast of “American Blue,” which also included Kelly Jenrette, Carlito Olivero, Onye Eme-Akwari, Jess Gabor, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Paulina Olszynski, Algee Smith, Jeremy Bobb, Rich Sommer, Jesse Garcia, Wrenn Schmidt, Ellyn Jameson and Maisie Merlock.
The logline for the pilot stated, “Native son Brian “Milk” Milkovich (Ventimiglia) returns to his hometown of Joliet, Illinois, to rescue a beleaguered police force while seeking redemption of his own.”
“American Blue” hailed from writer and executive producer Jeremy Carver. Brian Udovich and Neil Reynolds also executive produced. David Ayer directd the pilot and executive produced. Warner Bros. Television, where Carver is under an overall deal, was the studio. WBTV is said to be shopping the pilot to other outlets.
Deadline first reported the pilot not going forward.
