School is back in session at Hillman College. Netflix’s new “A Different World” series released the official trailer and new images.
The series is a followup to the NBC sitcom of the same title, which ran from 1987 to 1993
and was itself a spin-off of “The Cosby Show.” It stars Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison, reprising their roles as Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne, with Maleah Joi Moon as their youngest child Deborah, now starting her freshman year of college.
The trailer welcomes a new generation to Hillman College, a fictional HBCU, and introduces the people that will become Deborah’s people. As Deborah attempts to make her own path at Hillman, her very-involved parents have their experiences to share about their alma mater.
The cast also features Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Kennedi Reece, Jordan Aaron Hall and Chibuikem Uche. Along with Hardison and Guy, other original cast members including Darryl M. Bell, Debbie Allen, Cree Summer, Jenifer Lewis and Jada Pinkett Smith return to Hillman.
“A Different World” is created by showrunner, writer and executive producer Felicia Pride. Allen, who was a director and producer on the original run, returns to executive and produce the sequel’s premiere. Tom Werner, Reggie Rock Bythewood, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Mandy Summers are executive producers.
The original “A Different World” series aired for six seasons. Whitley and Dwayne were at the center of the show following the departure of Lisa Bonet as Denise Huxtable after the first season.
