“Desert Chant,” the first single from “Dune: Part Three” has been released.
The single begins with Timothée Chalamet humming before ascending into the war chant. The track is written by composer Hans Zimmer, who also
scored the previous films.
“Dune: Part Three” sees Chalamet return as Paul Atreides, continuing the story after his ascent to power at the end of “Part Two.” Inspired by Frank Herbert’s novel “Dune Messiah,” the action takes place 17 years after the events of the previous film and explores the consequences of Paul’s rule as emperor. And things are getting…dark. Really, really dark. As lovers of the first film know, Paul is blessed with visions of the future, but his mind has grown clouded since assuming control of the galaxy.
For Zimmer, returning to Arrakis meant returning to the book that first lit his imagination as a teenager, the same book that, years later, would bond him with Villeneuve.
Zimmer says, “When two teenagers are deeply moved by the same novel that lets their imagination run wild, so wild that the mysticism and philosophy that captured their souls never lets them go, they will inevitably meet and become creative brothers.” He adds, “For me, the beauty of working on ‘Dune’ was that it would take me back into a time of being full of youthful imagination, where everything was true and the impossible was possible. I truly believe that Denis and I never stopped dreaming those dreams the book lit like fire in us teenagers, but now we had learned the craft and knowledge, having done a few films, to turn our mental images into reality.”
Returning cast members include Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Pugh, whose role as Princess Irulan expands in the new film. Anya Taylor-Joy also reprises her role as Alia Atreides, who becomes a devoted follower of her brother. New additions to the cast include not only Pattinson but also Isaach de Bankolé as Paul’s former Fedaykin death commando.
“Dune: Part Three” debuts in theaters on Dec. 18.
