“The Office” and “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” actor Lucy Davis is receiving an outpouring of love and support from the industry after revealing she is battling an “incurable” form of Stage 4 breast cancer. Many
of Davis’ collaborators, from her “Shaun of the Dead” director Edgar Wright to her “Sabrina” co-stars Kiernan Shipka and Miranda Otta, commented on her Instagram announcement with well wishes and prayers.
Davis revealed to fans that she was diagnosed a year and a half ago with breast cancer that has since “metastasized to my bones. Specifically to my spine, right hip, and my ribs,” she wrote on Instagram. “The cancer is incurable, and too late for chemo.”
“I’m not scared of whatever comes next. I’m at peace with it,” Davis added. “I’ll see my Gracie sooner than expected, and for me, leaving my physical body just means going home… I’m still going to keep up all my work for animal rights. It’s so important to me. And I still would like to keep working. I’m perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys in my life.”
Davis’ declaration that she wants to continue acting amid her diagnosis was championed by Jenna Fischer. The two actors are connected by “The Office” franchise, with Davis playing receptionist Dawn Tinsley on the original U.K. edition of the show and Fischer playing her U.S. counterpart Pam Beesly in NBC’s remake.
“Beautiful post. Love you lots. And yes to working with cancer!” Fischer commented. “Let’s spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort!”
Fischer revealed in 2024 that she had been diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer and was now living cancer free after “completing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.” She wrote at the time that she was finally eager to go public with her cancer journey in order “to implore you to get your annual mammograms.”
Davis is also beloved for playing Hilda Spellman on Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Series stars Kiernan Shipka (“I love you so much Lucy”) and Miranda Otto (“Lucy I love you. You are transcendent in all things. See you very soon”) both sent Davis love on Instagram, as did previous Sabrina actor Melissa Joan Hart (“Your outlook is inspiring and I’m sending you love, prayers and big hugs! And a little magic for a miracle!”).
“Love you Lucy. Always. See you very soon,” wrote Davis’ “Shaun of the Dead” director Edgar Wright.
