Morgan Spector is in negotiations for the lead role of Robert Langdon in Netflix’s upcoming series based on the Dan Brown book “The Secret of Secrets,” Variety has learned from sources.
Furthermore, Rebecca Hall is in
talks for the female lead in the series, which was ordered at Netflix in May 2025.
Reps for Netflix declined to comment.
The logline for the show states, “Symbologist Robert Langdon (Spector) races against ancient forces and time to rescue a missing scientist (Hall) and her groundbreaking manuscript whose discoveries have the power to forever change humanity’s understanding of the mind.”
Brown and Carlton Cuse are co-creators and executive producers on the series, with Cuse also serving as showrunner under his Genre Arts banner. Emma Forman of Genre Arts also executive produces.
Spector currently stars in the hit HBO series “The Gilded Age,” on which he would continue to star should the Langdon show get picked up and should “The Gilded Age” get renewed for a fifth season. The fourth season of “The GIlded Age” is due out this fall. Spector recently appeared in the Netflix limited series “Black Rabbit” and has also starred in shows including “The Plot Against America” and “Homeland.”
Hall is coming off the FX series “The Beauty” and a guest star role in the hit Apple TV series “The Studio.” She is known for her roles in films like “The Town,” “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” and the “Godzilla x Kong” franchise.
Spector is repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Hall is repped by Julian Belfrage Associates, WME, and Hansen Jacobson.
The Robert Langdon books have sold over 250 million copies worldwide, translated into 56 languages. Brown published the first book in the series, “Angels & Demons,” in 2000, and followed up with “The Da Vinci Code” in 2003, “The Lost Symbol” in 2009, “Inferno” in 2013 and “Origin” in 2017. “The Secret of Secrets” was published in 2025. Of them, three have been adapted into films, most notably “The Da Vinci Code” in 2006 followed by “Angels & Demons” in 2009 and “Inferno” in 2016. Tom Hanks plays Robert Langdon in the films, which were all directed by Ron Howard and produced by Columbia Pictures. The franchise has grossed more than $2.2 billion total.
In 2021, Peacock aired one season of a series based on “The Lost Symbol,” in which Robert Langdon was played by Ashley Zukerman.
