Christina Applegate has returned home following a months-long hospitalization amid her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis. News broke in late March that the 54-year-old Emmy winner had been hospitalized, with outlets
like the Daily Mail and Page Six reporting at the time that those close to Applegate were preparing for the worst. But the actor spoke out on Instagramin April and told fans she was “getting stronger and better every day.”
A source told Variety that “all is well” with Applegate amid the news of the actor’s return home.
Applegate announced in August 2021 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The specifics of her hospitalization remain unclear, although she has been outspoken over the last few years about the challenges she faces while living with MS. Applegate speaks frankly about her diagnosis and its side effects (from intense bouts of nausea to swollen limbs, vertigo and more) on the podcast she hosts with “Sopranos” star Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS.
“Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes,” Applegate wrote on Instagramamid her hospitalization. “Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day. I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”
News of Applegate’s hospitalization broke a few weeks after the publication of her memoir, “You With the Sad Eyes.” She embarked on a press tour for the book with virtual appearances on talk shows such as ABC’s “The View” and more. Applegate, who is best known for the “Anchorman” movie and for starring in Fox sitcom “Married… with Children,” retired from acting while dealing with her MS. The comedic thriller series “Dead to Me” was her final role, with the show’s third season filming amid her diagnosis.
