Amazon Prime Video is continuing to build out the cast of “Bloodaxe” Season 2 before Season 1 has aired.
Varitey has learned that Maddy Ambus (“The Return of Stanley Atwell,” “Utopia”), Steven Brand (“Saw X,” “The Scorpion
King”), and Lasse Steen (“The Promised Land,” “What Lies Between Us”) have all joined the show’s second season in recurring roles. However, Steen’s character will be introduced in Season 1. Exact character details are being kept under wraps.
“Bloodaxe” does not have an official premiere date at the time of this publishing, but it is expected to launch in early 2027. Season 2 is currently filming in Ireland. The show was renewed for its second season back in June.
Ambus is repped by Thrive Talent. Brand is repped by International Artists Management. Steen is repped by Teamplayers in Denmark.
Per the logline, the show “chronicles the rise of one of history’s most famous Norse raiders, Erik Bloodaxe (Xavier Molyneux), and his formidable wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (Jessica Madsen). The series…will tell the story of their fight for the throne of Norway, as the land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals.”
The cast for Season 1 also includes Levi Miller, Karlis Arnolds Avots, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, and Rune Temte.
“Bloodaxe” hails from creators Michael and Horatio Hirst, who also showrun, executive produce, and write. Additional executive producers include Morgan O’Sullivan under his O’Sullivan Productions label, Steve Stark under his Toluca Pictures label, Arturo Interian, John Weber, and Sheila Hockin. MGM Television is the studio.
