Lin-Manuel Miranda is returning to Broadway more than a decade after “Hamilton” became a cultural phenomenon.
His new show “Warriors” is a musical adaptation of a cult film about street gangs in a bombed out New York
City. It will begin previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway in March 2027 and will officially open in April 2027.
“Warriors” will be directed by Jenny Koons, who is known for her immersive shows with the likes of The Public Theater and Playwrights Horizons, and co-directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, a Tony winner who worked with Miranda on “In the Heights” and “Hamilton.” Like the Paramount Pictures film that inspired it, “Warriors” follows a fictitious New York City gang from Coney Island to the Bronx and back when they are framed for the murder of a gang leader, Cyrus. “Warriors” boasts a book, music and lyrics by co-writers Miranda and Eisa Davis.
The show originated as a 2024 concept album that was executive produced by Nas and produced by musician Mike Elizondo. It featured the voices of Ms. Lauryn Hill, Busta Rhymes, Marc Anthony, Billy Porter, Ghostface Killah, RZA, Colman Domingo, Cam’ron, and Kim Dracula.
“With ‘Warriors,’ we take a fateful journey through New York City full of heart and grit as our characters fight to survive,” said Miranda and Davis. “Musicalizing such a vibrant world for the concept album has been a thrill, and now we’re coming out to play on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne. We can’t wait.”
The show will be produced by “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail and producer Jeffrey Seller as well as byu Miranda and his father, Luis A. Miranda, Jr. “Warriors” features scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Jason Crystal, projection design by Hana S. Kim, music supervision by Kurt Crowley, and orchestrations by Kurt Crowley, Scott Wasserman and Mike Elizondo.
