Romanian director Florin Şerban’s “You Don’t Belong Here,” a study of anti-Roma racism, has taken the Golden Lion for best film in the International Competition at the Locarno Film Festival, along with a special mention
for its young star Teodor Butănescu.
Veteran Korean auteur Hong Sangsoo, a recurring winner at the Swiss festival, was named Best Director for his droll family drama “Nowhere to Lay My Eyes,” while his partner and muse Kim Minhee won the gender-neutral Best Performance award — just two years after taking the same prize at the festival for Hong’s “By the Stream.” She shared the honor with Italian star Monica Bellucci for her supporting role in Giovanni Tortorici’s coming-of-age tale “Ketticè.”
