Eight major Japanese publishers, studios and production companies will pitch intellectual property to international buyers at the second edition of Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake, running Oct. 28-30 at TIFFCOM
2026 in Tokyo.
The platform, known as TIPM, will host one-on-one business meetings and open pitching sessions at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-Kan. Producers from Hollywood, Europe and Asia will attend, seeking to secure rights to adapt and remake Japanese manga, novels and classic films.
This year’s participants are Amuse Creative Studio, Kadokawa, Nihon Bungeisha, Nippon Animation, Shochiku, Shufu to Seikatsu Sha, Square Enix and Toei. The eight-company roster marks an expansion from the six IP holders at last year’s inaugural TIPM edition.
The market traces its origins to the Tokyo Story Market, a dedicated service for screen adaptation rights covering Japanese manga and novels, which launched at TIFFCOM in 2023. At TIFFCOM 2025, it was rebranded as TIPM and broadened to encompass film studios and production companies. The platform moved beyond Japan for the first time this past May, when seven companies presented at the Cannes Film Market under the Japan IP Market banner.
Among this year’s participants, Shochiku brings a library running from Yasujiro Ozu classics to contemporary genre fare. “For 131 years, Shochiku has created stories that transcend generations,” the studio said. “We are ready to bring these stories to audiences around the world and create the next global hit together with global filmmakers.”
Toei, which has already seen its IP adapted overseas as “Power Rangers” and “Yolo,” will present alongside Nihon Bungeisha, publisher of the horror hit “Gannibal,” and game developer and manga publisher Square Enix, whose titles including “Fullmetal Alchemist,” “Soul Eater” and “Kakegurui” have already generated anime, television and film adaptations.
“Another key strength is our dedicated international production team so we welcome discussions on both remake rights licensing and co-production opportunities,” Toei said.
TIFFCOM, now in its 23rd edition, runs alongside the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, which opens Oct. 26.
