Academy Award nominee Jacob Elordi is in talks to star in Ari Aster’s next film, A24’s “Scapegoat,” which already boasts fellow Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson leading the cast.
The logline for the film is being kept
under wraps, but there’s been plenty of early speculation about the plot. Some say the thriller is about a doctor who operates on an internet-famous person; others say it’s a sci-fi romance; and still others have described it as more of a traditional drama for Aster.
Aster wrote and will direct the film, with Lars Knudsen producing for their Square Peg banner.
News of Elordi’s casting comes during a big year for the Australian actor, known for his roles in HBO’s “Euphoria,” “The Kissing Booth” movies and “Saltburn.” He kicked off 2026 by earning an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe nod for his role in Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein” for Netflix, as well as a second Golden Globe nod for the Prime Video limited series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.”
While working the awards circuit, Elordi simultanteously embarked on the global press tour for “Wuthering Heights,” filmmaker Emerald Fennell’s take on the classic gothic romance. The Warner Bros. film — co-starring Margot Robbie, who also produced — was a box office hit, grossing over $240 million globally against an $80 million production budget.
Then, this spring, Elordi wrapped up his tenure on “Euphoria” with the buzzy show’s third and final season. The actor will next star in Ridley Scott’s “The Dog Stars” for 20th Century Studios; the post-apocalyptic survival thriller, based on Peter Heller’s bestselling novel, will be released in theaters on Aug. 28.
