Bradley Jaden, who just wrapped an acclaimed run as Javert in “Les Misérables: The Arena Concert Spectacular,” is making his Broadway debut in the fall.
The actor is joining the company of “Wanted” alongside the previously
announced cast of Solea Pfeiffer, Liisi LaFontaine, Luke James and Ledisi.
Described as a “soulful and dangerous” new musical, “Wanted” takes place in Texas 1893 and picks up with twins Mary and Martha Clarke on the run. Here’s the official logline: “The sisters, Black women who pass for white and hide in plain sight, straddle a dangerous line between two Americas. But as powerful forces close in to keep their family from claiming a future of their own, Mary and Martha are driven to desperate measures to save their mother and their family’s legacy. When survival demands they do the unthinkable, the sisters nevertheless fight for self-determination, dignity, and the inheritance they have long been denied.”
Pfeiffer and LaFontaine portray Mary and Martha, while Ledisi and Jaden play characters named Tallulah and Jesse.
“Wanted” features book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri, a descendant of the Sisters Clarke, and music by composer Ross Baum. Stevie Walker-Webb is directing, with choreography by Chelsey Arce. The musical will begin previews at the James Earl Jones Theatre on Oct. 15 ahead of opening night on Nov. 8.
Prior to “Les Misérables,” which wrapped its world tour at Radio City Music Hall, Jaden has starred in London and West End productions of “Sondheim’s Old Friends,” “Wicked,” “Shrek” and “Camelot.” In Vulture’s review of “Les Misérables: The Arena Concert Spectacular,” critic Fran Hoepfner singled out Jaden’s performance, noting “If there is a discovery to be had in this particular cast, it’s Bradley Jaden’s take on Javert,” adding the applause after his rendition of “Javert’s Suicide” was “the most raucous and rowdy of the night.”
