Sherri Shepherd is stepping back into the spotlight this weekend with a new film
that tells the true story of a 9/11 survivor.
The actress stars in “Angel in the Rubble: The Genelle Guzman Story,” which premieres on Lifetime this Saturday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. Executive produced by Shepherd, along with Robin Roberts, Linda Berman and Anne Carlucci, the film recounts the survival story of Genelle Guzman (Shepherd), a New York City transit worker who was buried beneath the North Tower after it collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001.
Guzman was trapped for 27 hours before rescuers found her clinging to life under the rubble. According to a movie description, the then-30-year-old was the final survivor recovered from Ground Zero.
Viewers can watch “Angel in the Rubble: The Genelle Guzman Story” live on Lifetime this Saturday night, with the network rebroadcasting the made-for-TV movie throughout the weekend.

This is one of Shepherd’s first major roles since the TV host and comedian’s eponymous talk show ended this summer. The film, meantime, is based on Guzman (now married and known as Guzman-McMillan’s) 2011 memoir of the same name.

When Genelle later searched for Paul to thank him, no one could confirm he was ever there, leading her to believe he was an angel sent to save her and guide her toward the renewed life she had promised while buried beneath the rubble.”
