General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) and Saab have announced a collaboration to demonstrate Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) capabilities on the MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Aircraft
(RPA) platform. This demonstration is scheduled for the summer of 2026 at GA-ASI's Desert Horizon flight operations facility in Southern California. The MQ-9B, equipped with Saab's AEW sensors, aims to provide persistent air surveillance and AEW capabilities in regions where such systems are currently unavailable or unaffordable. This initiative is part of GA-ASI's effort to enhance the MQ-9B's capabilities, which include models like the SkyGuardian and SeaGuardian, as well as the UK's MQ-9B variant known as Protector.
