What's Happening?
Akayla Ross, a senior at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, has been awarded the Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale Chancellor’s Scholarship, valued at $108,000. The scholarship covers tuition, mandatory fees, housing, and meals for four years.
Agnes Szemborski, assistant vice chancellor for external relations at SIU, presented the award to Ross during a surprise celebration. Ross, who has a GPA of 3.9, was selected from a pool of applicants with a minimum GPA of 3.8. She plans to major in business/marketing at SIU. Ross has been actively involved in the Vikings Marching Band, playing the trumpet, and also participates in competitive dance.
