The Escanaba Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is taking on a more active role in maintaining and expanding floral displays in downtown Escanaba. Previously, the DDA paid the city's Public Works Department for flower maintenance. Under the new plan,
the DDA will assume greater responsibility for these efforts starting next year. DDA Vice Chair Peggy Berg stated that the goal is to collaborate with the city and Enhance Escanaba to increase the number of flowers and containers in the downtown area. The DDA board has approved the purchase of a side-by-side utility vehicle equipped with a water tank to facilitate the watering of flowers along downtown sidewalks. This equipment will allow staff and volunteers to access flower containers more efficiently, particularly later in the fall. The initiative is part of a broader streetscape program that also involves the City of Escanaba, which has approved matching funds for a grant to purchase additional floral containers.
