What's Happening?
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History has received a $160,880 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to support the conservation and accessibility of its rare books and fine art collections.
This funding will aid the second phase of a multi-year initiative, including a comprehensive inventory and cataloging of items, upgrading storage facilities, and rehousing rare books in climate-controlled environments. The museum's collections include over 7,000 fine art pieces and 1,829 rare books, featuring historically significant works such as first edition history plates from 'Description de l'Égypte' and Audubon's 'Birds of America.'
Why It's Important?
The grant enhances the museum's ability to preserve and showcase its valuable collections, contributing to cultural and educational enrichment. By improving the care and visibility of these works, the museum fosters learning and inspiration, attracting scholars, students, and art enthusiasts. The initiative underscores the importance of preserving historical artifacts and artworks, ensuring their accessibility for future generations. It also highlights the role of museums in promoting cultural heritage and supporting community engagement.
