What's Happening?
Moroccan telecommunications company Inwi, in collaboration with China Mobile International, has launched the first private 5G network in Morocco dedicated to industrial applications. This network, unveiled at the GITEX Africa 2026 event in Marrakesh,
is deployed at a 52-hectare industrial site in the Oriental region. The initiative aims to support Industry 4.0 by providing a highly automated and digitalized platform to enhance operational performance. The private 5G infrastructure is designed to offer ultra-low latency, high stability, and dynamic quality of service, facilitating the deployment of IoT solutions and intelligent industrial control systems. Huawei, a Chinese vendor, is also involved in the project, providing tailored 5G solutions for various sectors including mining, renewable energy, agriculture, and logistics.
Why It's Important?
The deployment of a private 5G network marks a significant step in Morocco's industrial digital transformation, potentially setting a precedent for similar initiatives across the country. By embracing Industry 4.0, Moroccan industries can enhance their operational efficiency and competitiveness on a global scale. The network's ability to support critical industrial applications and IoT solutions could lead to increased productivity and innovation. Furthermore, this development aligns with global trends towards digitalization and automation in industrial sectors, potentially attracting more foreign investment and partnerships in Morocco's technology and industrial sectors.
What's Next?
Inwi plans to replicate this private 5G model with other chambers of commerce across Morocco, potentially expanding the reach and impact of Industry 4.0 initiatives. The success of this project could encourage other telecommunications companies and industries to invest in similar technologies, further advancing Morocco's digital infrastructure. Additionally, the partnership with China Mobile and Huawei may lead to more collaborative projects, enhancing technological exchange and development between Morocco and China.
