U.S. had pesticide contamination levels similar to certified organic honey. The current U.S. Department of Agriculture rules require a 6.4-kilometer buffer zone of organic land for certification, a requirement difficult to meet in the continental U.S. The research suggests that the rules do not align with bee foraging behavior, which typically occurs within a much shorter range.
