What's Happening?
The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh is renaming its College of Nursing, Health Professions, and STEM to the Mary Novak-Jandrey College of Nursing, Health Professions, and STEM. This change follows a significant endowment from Mary Novak-Jandrey, a 1974
nursing graduate and first-generation college student. The endowment will support student success, faculty development, curriculum innovation, and teaching infrastructure. The renaming, effective July 1, is honorific and will not alter the college's governance. The investment aims to enhance interdisciplinary education and prepare graduates for leadership roles in complex fields.
Why It's Important?
This endowment represents a substantial investment in the future of STEM education at UW-Oshkosh. By supporting interdisciplinary programs and innovative teaching methods, the university is positioning itself to better prepare students for careers in rapidly evolving fields. The focus on faculty development and infrastructure improvements will likely enhance the quality of education and attract more students to the university. This move also underscores the importance of alumni contributions in advancing educational institutions and highlights the potential for similar initiatives to drive progress in higher education across the country.
