What's Happening?
In response to rising antisemitism and ongoing conflicts, nearly 200 Jewish leaders from Israel, North America, Europe, and Latin America participated in a virtual event called 'The Great Mifgash: Global Jewish Leadership Speed Date.' Organized by the
Tisch Center for Jewish Dialogue at ANU Museum of the Jewish People, the event aimed to strengthen ties and build a shared future among Jewish communities worldwide. Despite disruptions from security alerts in Israel, the event facilitated 390 meetings, with 41% resulting in meaningful new connections. The initiative, coinciding with Israel's Diaspora Week, sought to address the growing need for connection between Israeli and Diaspora communities.
Why It's Important?
This initiative highlights the importance of global cooperation and dialogue in addressing antisemitism and fostering unity among Jewish communities. By creating new connections and strengthening existing ones, the event aims to build a resilient international coalition capable of addressing both internal and external challenges facing the Jewish people. The event's success underscores the potential for technology to facilitate meaningful interactions across geographic and ideological divides, promoting a sense of shared destiny and collective action.
What's Next?
Organizers plan to expand future sessions, increasing conversation times and outreach efforts. The event served as a pilot for a potential long-term international coalition, connecting Israeli Jewish Peoplehood Coalition with global Jewish leadership. Participants expressed strong interest in joining a permanent coalition, indicating a commitment to ongoing collaboration and dialogue. This initiative represents a broader strategy for addressing challenges facing Jewish communities, emphasizing the need for global cooperation and shared vision.
